However, MP3 has the best size to performance ratio IMHO. WMA is very very good, and only half the size of MP3, but there are other issues with it. I like it just fine though.
To dupe a dvd, you need to acquire a DVD burner device. If you want to do this through the computer, you will need a dvd burner and confirm that your current cd player on the computer will play dvds. This would be your best option since some of these have firmware upgradeability and will make it easier to duplicate the dvd in the future when stronger encryption is enabled. If you want to do this without the computer, there are several devices on the market that will duplicate a dvd. The only draw back to these devices is the possibility of improved encryption on the dvds, make the device useless. The best place to get some sort of dvd burner would be Fry's. They have a huge assortment and the prices are good. Around $300 for a good name brand.
Damn, if this post doesn't get Gregg to pop his load, I must be slipping. *g*
Staples and Staples.com often has the Verbatim DVD+RW on sale for $180 (after the rebates of course)... the +RW means you can afford to make coasters. Avoid DVD-RW discs and recorders; the format is has no error sparing, which means if one part of the disc goes bad the whole thing goes in the trash. (+RW has sector sparing). But that's geek talk.
The software used to copy a DVD is DVDXCopy from 321 Studios. Fry's often has it for $70, or you can order it online for a bit more.
With DVDXCopy and the DVD recorder, you can start duplicating your DVDs (this is the setup I have at home) using your computer. Figure from $1 to $3 for blank DVDs, and about 45 minutes.
WMA/MP3/etc; well, the general rule is that MP3's are compatible with more things but have a larger file size, and WMA has file sizes about half of MP3s for similar quality. I prefer WMA because it's smaller, and I don't have any MP3 only devices.
