Bicentennial Man
Apr. 25th, 2001 06:17 pmYesterday I bought the movie Bicentennial Man. I loved the book by Issac Asimov and the movie wasn't a bad copy.
I was struck today by a thought. I was captured by this book as a youth and now as an adult, but why? Then I thought - Two people who love each other regardless what socity thinks. They won't be able to produce children but don't care, as their love is what sustains them.
Gee, I must have been more dense than lead! Hel-lo!?
This book was to give me a blueprint to gay love before I knew what that was.
Hmmmmm Funny thing life.

Date: 2001-04-26 12:48 pm (UTC)On a similar theme, did you ever see that episode of Star Trek The Next Generation? There is this society where identifying with either the male or female gender is considered backwards and abhorrent. Everyone is asexual. One member is secretly female and falls in love with Riker. They must hide their relationship from everyone else on the planet. Eventually, she is caught and reprogrammed to be asexual.
Very good story and I remember watching it with a bunch of my very straight and slightly homophobic fraternity brothers (only some of them were, to be fair). After this episode aired, everyone was quiet and some jock said, "wow, I think I know what it's like to be gay". His girlfriend immediately exclaimed, "I can't believe that OF ALL THINGS, Star Trek is making my boyfriend more open minded!"
That was a fun evening. I may have to post this story on my own journal :)

My roomates's best friend didn't belive his gay friends that guys give better head than girls....they promptly went to the bathroom at the pizza place and was proven wrong........
See what I mean about an "open" college....*heh*
