Date: 2002-03-18 08:09 am (UTC)You can watch something else with Replay while recording. Can't do that with Tivo.

DirecTiVo
Date: 2002-03-18 09:24 am (UTC)Also, I highly recommend the DirecTiVo boxes over the standard TiVo boxes if you're considering dumping cable in favor of DirecTV. They enable you to get around the recording limitation of the standalone TiVo boxes (though that can also be done with a splitter and a well-placed A/B switch on the input of your Cable-Ready TV).
My DirecTiVo (combined DirecTV and TiVo in a single box) can record 1 program while I watch another Live, OR I can record *2* programs simultaneously while watching a 3rd pre-recorded program. Also, DirecTV broadcasts its data using MPEG compression, which is the format that TiVos record in. So, the DirecTiVos record the MPEG signal direct from the satellite, whereas a standalone TiVo connected to a cable box goes through an extra Cable-Box-Decode/TiVo-ReEncode step.

Date: 2002-03-18 01:51 pm (UTC)I'm tired of missing E.R., remembering "Judging Amy" is on when it's 10:45, Never getting to watch "Providence", and a host of other things I'd like to tape but often miss or forget I want to see sometehing.
It's the Soap's that really rot the brain...so glad I gave up General Hospital years ago. It was cold turkey and I sweated for weeks but now it's all behind me. :-)

Date: 2002-03-18 04:22 pm (UTC)ok ... I am so stupid, unsophisticated, whatever ...
what exactly is TIVO? I mean I understand the fact that you can record shows, but there are no tapes, right? Is it just a box or is it a monthly service too?
I need something ... for OZ ..... yummy
