WELL CHILDREN:
Parents that call their PCP about a problem and rather than the PCP actually provide medical advice over the telephone, they avoid legal issues and send the parents to the ER. The parents, thinking that this is a "true" emergency, are distraught and then pissed off that (a) that because it is NOT an emergency they will have to wait longer (b) a referral by a PCP doesn't get them seen faster [acuity is set by our staff, not by an outside MD that hasn't physically eval'd the patient] and (c) having insurance or cash/credit/gold/platinum anything does not get them seen faster or a better waiting room [that is called a financial triage and totally illegal according to US federal EMTALA statues]

BROKEN BONES:
Snap, crackle, pop! Inattentive adults allowing children to jump, run, and soar under a blind eye. Social workers are busy today!

LACERATIONS:
Cuts, cuts, cuts! See above reason for broken bones.

BURNS:
Inattentive adults allowing children to grab at grills, stoves, BBQ spits atc....so sad...Mexicans at lake lewisville are famous for this. Social workers are busy today!

NEAR DROWNINGS:
Inattentive adults allowing children to [see a trend here?] wander off or too many kids being watched by too few adults. Mostly the former reason. Mexicans at lake lewisville are famous for this...Social workers are busy today!

MPCs:[motor-pedestrian collision]
Inattentive adults or too many kids being watched by too few adults allow the children to wander off and play in streets. Social workers are busy today!

MVCs:[motor-vehicle collision]
After all is done and partied out, all the dumb drunk people drive back to their homes - with their children in any part of the car they will fit.....unrestrained. Social workers are busy today!

I was once, mistakenly, riding my bike along the bike path in chicago (another reason not to live in that fucking city). Thousands everywhere. All of a sudden there's a, like, four-year-old girl in my path and I'm bearing down on her. I manage to steer away from her, reach down, and hold her to the side because I know I'm gonna spill the bike, and I'm able to hold her outta the way. I fall, she topples the other way. Lots of people crowd around, see that she's fine but crying. I on the other hand have cuts on my hands and legs. People ask me if I'm okay, and I'm looking around for the kids fucking parents, because I thought they woulda swept down on me. No, the kid has to wander, like fifty feet away to them, where they just sit watching the whole thing. Never got up to see if their kid was okay. Nothing. And practically ignored the crying child when she wandered over to them. Unbelievable. I'm sure you've seen the worse results of such scenarios.

Yep. But they ball like babies if the kid gets hurt and CPS (child protective services) shows up and threaten to take custody of the children

Whatever happened to pacifiers? I never see them in use anymore, particularly on planes & subway trains. Have they been outlawed?

On that issue, how come there's no Tylenol Children's Chewable Valium?
