A general question of (my) life

This weekend off has been a beer fest! Love it.

However, I was told last night that I was fat, by two friends.

Mind you these are friends of mine. One is a fairly close one.

The first one was complaining of being cold outside on the patio.

I called him a baby, and he said that he didn't have as many "layers" (pats belly) as I do. *fume*

He aplogized imediately. I was beside myself.

The next friend I told about the previous friend. HE agreed with the first one.

And threw in an aside to start working out.

*fume*

After getting over the shock of it all. I think I have to agree with them.

I have gained weight in 2002. *shrug*

Any suggestions guys?

One of my favorite "you're fat" moments came at dinner with "friends" a few years ago...

We were having dinner at a Mexican restaurant, and everyone was munching tortilla chips. One of the guys in the group said "chris, you have chip crumbs on your chin" - to which another added "you have to tell him which one" [meaning 'which chin'].

They were trying to be funny, but it was a bit much - and I was self-conscious for the rest of the night. Anyway. I work out daily - I'm all solid and stuff but I'm still fat. Pretty healthy... but fat. And they're still assholes. Oh well - who's worse off? :)

There can be a difference in giving an honest opinion and in being mean spirited.

If someone says you're fat, is your reaction based on their words, or how you feel about those words?

I'm overweight. I admit it. I will remain overweight until I do something to correct it.

I have friends that are overweight. Some of them carry it well, but there are a couple of people I know that I fear for their health. I see them wheazing after climbing a flight of stairs and it scares the crap out of me.

Are your feelings based on how others see you, or how you see yourself?

For what it's worth, I always thought you were good looking.

Sounds to me like 'friends' are basing their decision to look at you based on what they think you should look like and not on the fact that they like you as a friend.

Voiced concern is one thing... But no one likes to be insulted. Insults still taste nasty no how much humor you sprinkle on them.

Hey! Just been lurking around for the last little while and came across you. (pun so intended). Read this post (I know it's a bit old) and thought I'd put in my two cents. Tell them to go fuck themselves. I've gotten this all my life too. There are two diffent ways you can handle it. One: with a smile and be hurt inside. or Two: tell them to go fuck themselves and feel totally good on the inside. Who cares what you look like on the outside, it's what's inside that counts. But I would have to agree with everyone else here, when I say WOOF! LOL! You're damn sexy!
