3 yo female CPR prior to arrival due to MPC (motor-pedestrian collision)
5 hours of coding her....chest compressions during CT scan (Oy!)
1 in gap in skull-C1....internal decapitation (Oy!)
ICU not happy about not calling death in ER. (Oy!)
Last Night: Four trauma alerts (Oy!)
pre-teenager and 6 mo. baby sister involved in MVC (motor-vehicle collision)
Both ejected. prolonged extraction of parents. Father DOS (Dead on scene) Mother taken to adult facility next door to us. Critical condition.
pre-teenager : intubated, subdural head bleed, bilateral femur fractures, right wrist radius ulna fractures, pulmonary contusion, fractured ribs, fracture liver, fractured spleen, lots of road rash to whole body (abrasions due to scrubbing the road surface) -> ICU admit
6mo baby sis' : road rash to legs, right open tibia fibula fracture -> Ortho floor admit

13yo male, MVC ejected : broken left humerus, left maxilla fracture, left eye lid laceration -> Ortho floor admit
last...
6yo female, horse kick to abdomen : grade three liver laceration, no other injures apparent -> ICU admit
All in all a busy night.

I am glad there are folks like you out there who can and do do this stuff.

Date: 2003-06-07 02:47 pm (UTC)lordy. it was hard enough when i was a baby EMT doing ambulance work (ugh .. ) it was too tough for me to get away from the negative and think about the whole "this is saving lives" thing.
all i could focus on was how senseless people can be to each other, and some of the dumb shit we do without thinking.
