Because if it were easy than love between people would be nothing more important than the love of a favorite ice cream flavor. Thats not how it is meant to be.
Things that matter to us, that make our hearts go flip flop, are always more difficult. We put more of ourselves into them.
That's not to say that we should make things easy by not investing in them; au contrare! We just need to strengthen, but not harden, our hearts. We need to feel the love and support all around us even as we feel loss. We need to trust in the fact that love is not a 'zero sum game'; that when we give it we are not diminished in the giving.
Unfortunately, when the pain is upon us, it sure does feel that way.
I am sending you mega hugs...I am in Albuquerque,NM, and it is cold. I would love just to hug you and have some of your warmth and share my good thoughts with you.
