Date: 2005-07-01 03:34 pm (UTC)she turned out to be quite a surprise sometimes.
the one thing that gives me hope is that she was appointed by the other great evil, so maybe the current one will choose someone that will surprise us with independant thought sometimes too...

Date: 2005-07-01 03:47 pm (UTC)ya'll are screwed.
(And by ya'll I mean me ... 8 months until Swiss green card, two years before a Swiss man can almost marry me, either way I'm staying on my best behavoir ... )
It'll take more than prayer to get decent Supreme Court nominees
Date: 2005-07-01 07:03 pm (UTC)This is so critical. If moderate Americans do not stand up and demand appointment of qualified candidates, the Supreme Court will be fucked up for years to come.
I was often at odds with O'Connor and Rehnquist, but I felt they were fair, qualified and did their job with a serious commitment to the law, not their own political leanings.
I expect a conservative administration to nominate conservative judges, but not right-wing extremist wackos like Bush put on the Appellate Courts in the last few months.
I just hope individual Americans make themselves heard on this.
