better mood last night at work

should have known better...

critical care hallway last night :

4 mo old resp failure, acidotic, hypothermic -> 5 hour ER dwell time
• intubated
• multi IV's
• multi meds (new & unknown from ICU fellow's pharmacopoeia)
• 3 cat scans - 2 (different!) trips to CT
• constant reheating
dx : unknown chest mass, pulmonary hypertension
outcome : very probable death
social impact : parents unable to cope (aka freeked)

3 mo old CPR -> 2 hour ER dwell time
• intubated
• blown pupils
• mutli IV's
• multi meds to maintain heart rate
• axional brain bleeds
• constant reheating
dx : shaken baby
outcome : brain death protocol initiated
social impact : mother's boyfriend confessed and arrested for shaken baby

2 mo old resp failure -> 1 hour ER dwell time
• intubated
• chronic lung disease
• premature
dx : pneumonia
outcome : recovery favorable
social : family guarded

*sigh*

any bright times?

1 mo old snotty nose -> 1 hour ER dwell time
• premature
• crack baby
• 1.5 Kg (3.3 lbs)!!!
• suctioned nose
dx : snotty nose (a cold!)
outcome : homeward bound
social : foster parents relieved and continues plans on adopting...

YAY!

now for dinner before bed

Have you noticed any changes with regards to ST Elevated Myocardial Infarction? Are you seeing fewer STEMI's?
