Please be very careful and follow the regimen exactly. Keep yourself flushed with water... over flushed is even better.

I speak from terrible experience. Atkins, or rather my not paying attention to the rules almost killed me... I have slowly advancing Kidney disease because of my foolishness.

to make a long story short, my kidneys began to shut down as the toxicity built up on my blood. It was so bad that the uric acid began to eat away at my cartilage, and I exuding puss from my tear ducts. I was hospitalized for 2 weeks.

The MD's told me that the damage to my cartilage, on my right side was bad enough that i would never walk normally again. Miraculously, the cartilage began to rebuild and in about a year was back to almost normal, but I have arthritis on the right side of my body as an end result.

This was caused by my own stupidity.... I am not a fluids consumer. I can exist on 2-3 12 oz glasses of water/day. Atkins diet requires a lot of water (12-12oz glasses)to wash the crap out of you through your kidneys. I drank... at most... 3 12 oz glasses of liquid/day. Not smart, eh? I am lucky that I am alive and have all my joints working. I have bad arthritis and SF weatehr doesn't help that. LOL

Go for it. Another book you might want to check out is the TNT Diet. It is by Jeff Volek. It has a good research basis (and I'm not just saying that 'cause it was done at the University of Connecticut ;-). I think it stresses a more healthy approach to protein diets and how weight training is far more important to achieving your goal than just burning calories through aerobic exercise.

And take your vitamins. Guy in the office was hospitalized after two weeks on Atkins. Lack of potassium led to cardiac arrhythmia. He recovered fully after treatment.

been doing that since my colon hospitalization

plus iron pills due to anemia

taking benofiber due to lack of fiber in atkins and to help my colon work

and i already drink decaf tea a lot so i'm good
