Just had a 15 year old patient go to the OR.

Reason? He and his best friend made a homemade bomb out of a co2 cartridge.

It blew a large portion of his hand off. Tips of pinky and ring, nearly entire of middle and index, and most of his thumb. It was grossly cool. (educational for me - not so good for him)

The stumps were....well...blasted.

The weird thing about horror movies is that they get very close to reality - hence I don't like horror movies. Most people go to see them and are grossed out but in the back of their minds they know its ONLY a movie. I see and gag cuz it gets a tad too close to reality. ie like my kiddo that was shot through the forehead - eerie because it was like I was living in a movie set................*shiver*

I could never do what you do.

I once dated/lived with/loved a EMT/Ranger/Paratrooper/Sniper/Bodybuilder ... anyhow, when he was studying for his EMT stuff he would leave the books out and I would flip through them. The pictures had my stomach turning.

I would be puking into the wounds and I don't think that would be too helpful, unless the stomach acid disinfects. ;)

I agree I can't do the real blood or guts stuff I pass out everytime I see things like that, can you see an orderly (yes mam ill be right there and then passes out). hehe that would be sooo funny.

sad. That reminds me of when I tried making napalm on the kitchen stove with a friend. I was a stupid kid. Thankfully, I still have all of my fingers. However, the end of my middle finger on my right hand was sanded off with a belt sander. :-X

My sister-in-law is an ER doc and some of the stories she has told literally make my toes curl in on themselves. She and you are brave (and strong stomached!) people that we're lucky to have around when we need them. She's also good for emergency scrip writing! *grins*
